Nugget of Nostalgia!

I played this game when it originally came out and LOVED it! Now I get to play it all over again in the palm of my hand!!! I even bought the Mac version first, and I had to get the iPhone version too! For those of you who didnt play this as a kid, it is one of the best SHMUPs ever! If you like retro games, you will not be disappointed! Thank you SOOO much for porting this to iPhone!

Retro must buy

Old school thrills here, I lost my disks but here is my chance to relive the glory! Watch for the shadows, they show up ahead of the enemies >.o Thespaciousmind is a huge whimp!!!

I love this game!!!!

The original developer of Raptor was apogee, I used to play this game when I was a young lad. I am totally happy to own this on my iPhone.

Classic!!

Absolutely fantastic old game from the MS DOS era. The iPhone version still controls pretty well, and the whole game still feels like it used to back in the day. A must-have!

One of the best games ever made

...now in the palm of your hand! Slightly laggy finger tracking and a poorly placed weapon switch "button" keep it from being a five star app. Otherwise, its perfect. This is what gaming is supposed to be: nice and simple!

Disappointed by controls

Loved this game growing up and excited to see it on iPhone... I just cant get the controls down... You cant adjust the accelerometer speed (which i thought would be my preferred choice of control) and the default touch controls seemed to lag. Fix the lag, add a d-pad/touch control option, and tweak the current ones and this is by far one of my favorite iPhone app! Thanks!

love the game, hate the controls

the game is still amazing, even after 15 years since its orginal release, and when i saw it was on the iphone the first thing i did was buy it. i just wish they would fix the controls, make some buttons or fix the accelerometor speed, if those were fixed it would easily be 5 stars

Please revise the controls!

First of all, thank you for making this port in the first place! I love that its almost exactly like the original, including the opening sequence! Ive been playing Raptor since I was about 6 years old, starting with a shareware copy on DOS. I am disappointed with the control scheme, however. As others have mentioned, the accelerometer controls are very laggy, and could use some sort of sensitivity setting. In its current state it is unusable. I do think that if the accelerometer controls were refined, this would be the ideal way to play. It would also be nice to have some sort of d-pad option combined with a "press anywhere on screen to fire" scheme. Although the drag and fire controls work, they are less than ideal and detract from the experience. Again, thank you for porting this to iOS! Everything else about this game is awesome! Its faithful to the original in almost every single detail! And on top of it all it runs extremely smooth! All this game needs is a bit of refinement to the control set up to really make it shine. PS- am I the only one who would like to see a port of Duke Nukem II and Jazz Jackrabbit on iOS? If the IP holders are listening (reading), Id gladly pay up to $10 for either of these. Especially Duke Nukem II.

Awesome game. Just like the old DOS version

This game is awesome. I used to play it as a youngin on our DOS computer and loved it. This is literally the exact same thing. Awesome, fun action. Love this game. Fantastic job

A story about this game, a story of love and regret

The game is great! I was so excited to see it on the store. I was telling everyone I know, an then bam! I got slapped in the face with terrible controls! Ok I revised my review after playing a little more. The controls take some getting used to. I enjoy it a lot more on the ipad. Please add button controls soon though! Please??!

Must Have Classic!!!

I was born in 82 and came across this gem somewhere in the 90s as shareware. I played the heck out of it on my home pc on MSDos and I even managed to upload it to all the school computers so I could play in computer class lol. Awesome game, well worth the price!!!

Excellent game, terrible controls

I love Raptor, but the current implementation of the controls is pretty bad on this version. A separate fire button would be great, as well as the ability to have relative ship controls like in the iOS version of Tyrian. Until this is fixed I sadly cannot recommend this :( I wish they would fix this!

Unplayable and tragic

Ive loved this game since I was a little kid in the 90s and this is among the worst rereleases Ive seen for old games to be on iOS. First of all, the plane is slower. On a shoot-em-up. Not sure if its lag or whatever but fix it. An option for traditional controls would also be awesome. Another thing. If ya wanna make it pretty like apple software or whatever, go back to the old menu transitions. Most of the interface that was tagged on is laggy and unnecessary. If you are gonna rerelease a classic, do it justice and stop wasting everyones time including mine and yours. Fix it or give me my money back, preferable both.

Glad its on iOS, but terrible controls

I was so excited to see this game on the App Store. Brought back some great childhood memories. The game looks just like the original, but the controls are TERRIBLE. Once the controls are fixed, the game will be much, much better.

great game.

needs iOS 8 compatibility

I love this game

But new version no have any changes why?? Where the fullscreen support for iphone 5 ???

Cant believe Raptor is back

When I searched the app store for "raptor," the DOS game I used to play in the 90s, I never actually thought that anything would come up. However, its here, and with the latest updates, its not only a playable game, its very fun and a surprisingly faithful recreation of the original. In fact, its exactly that: a top-to-bottom recreation of a DOS classic. That can hardly be done without some problems. The biggest and most relevant one here is that it feels like you as the player get far less lead time when enemies are coming onto the screen than you did in the days when monitors were big boxy things. Even veteran raptor players will find themselves playing on the easiest or second easiest difficulty setting. Im not really sure what the developers could do to mitigate this while still keeping the game a faithful recreation. Its just something to keep in mind. Dont get me wrong: even those of you who have never heard of Raptor should enjoy this if the game type appeals to you. Youll be blasting enemies out of the sky, collecting cash as a reward, and using that money on upgrades for your jet fighter. Graphically, its a little basic even for a smart phone, but dont let that put you off. The bottom line is that this game is a love letter to those of us who grew up with the word "shareware" in our lexicon, but it was so good in the 1990s that it deserves another look -- and another life -- today.

True Nostalgia

I remember playing this when I was around 10 years old on Windows 95 from a 3.5" disc (kids, look that up). This is a true classic arcade style top scroller and a real joy for me to play. I am now almost 30 and still remember the levels and how they play out almost exactly. I noticed some tweaks but nothing bad. If you want a fun and challenging air shooter just buy this. Raptor: Call of the Shadows brings endless hours of enjoyment and replay-ability. So jump in the pilots seat, your mission awaits.

Disappointed

The plane is super Katty and slow, while the enemies plans are fast and elusive. Upset I paid for this... Id like a refund.

Classic

Ever played an old dos demo game? Then youve probably played raptor: call of the shadows. Its a great all time 2-d plane shooter. If you havent played it, try the lite version which is as the demo. Runs better in my wifes iPhone 6 plus than my iPhone 6; both are wonderful though. They dont make games like they used to, its worth reliving the classics...
